Food is more than nourishment. It carries culture, memory, and dignity.
On February 10th, 2026, Afromeals Foundation partnered with Miami Valley Meals to prepare and serve authentic Haitian meals to 400 Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio. Our goal was not only to address food insecurity, but to ensure the meals reflected the traditions and flavors of the community we served.
Honoring Tradition with Authentic Boeuf en Sauce
At the center of the meal was Boeuf en Sauce, a classic Haitian dish made with tender beef, traditional Haitian epis seasoning, peppers, onions, garlic, herbs, tomato paste, and carefully layered spices.
Haitian cooking builds flavor intentionally, using epis both to marinate the meat and to develop the sauce. By preparing the dish using traditional methods, we preserved the bold, comforting flavors that make this meal deeply meaningful.
The stew was thoughtfully paired with rice and vegetable sides, with dessert provided where appropriate, creating a complete and culturally familiar dining experience for the community.
A Partnership Rooted in Community Care
Preparing food for 400 individuals required strong collaboration. Through our partnership with Miami Valley Meals, we were able to scale production while maintaining authenticity.
For many in attendance, the meal offered more than sustenance. It provided a sense of familiarity and belonging during a time of transition.
Expanding Culturally Responsive Food Access in Ohio
This initiative reflects Afromeals Foundation's commitment to fighting food insecurity in Ohio through culturally responsive food access. When meals reflect the heritage of the people being served, they do more than fill plates. They restore dignity, preserve identity, and strengthen community ties.
If your organization is interested in partnering with us to expand culturally relevant food distribution and nutrition education initiatives across Ohio, we welcome the conversation.
